Engaging the Community

Knowledge translation is the sharing of knowledge with decision-makers and program planners
Engaging the Community is a research project involving both a research team from the University of Prince Edward Island and members of rural communities in Prince Edward Island. Working together, researchers and community members want to improve children’s and youth’s health by raising awareness of children’s health issues and supporting communities to develop initiatives to improve the health of their children. To reach this goal, knowledge from the community and knowledge from research is shared and actions planned. This sharing of knowledge is also known as knowledge translation, thus the name of the Engaging the Community project:

Several steps are involved in Engaging the Community: collaboration with community members, information gathering from community members, sharing research on issues raised by the community, and the development of initiatives to address issues important to the community.
